Project Independence
Independent trips for those brave enough to take the road less travelled with a group of like-minded friends.
The project independence team is made up of students from all over the country excited to take the adventure of a lifetime. Running independently of school, you’ll get all the benefits of the training, support and safety of a World Challenge experience with a ready-made team of like-minded young travellers who you’ll get to know in the build up to the trip ahead. Each year, we hand select a list of the very best destinations and have (limited) spots available for those brave young souls ready to take up the challenge. All that’s left to do is choose your destination, sign up and put the dates in your diary.

Your school trip to Borneo awaits
Deep within the tropics lies Borneo, a land of ancient rainforests, soaring peaks, and incredible biodiversity. The third-largest island in the world, shared by Indonesia, Brunei, and the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, a place where adventure, conservation, and cultural immersion come together. This overseas school trip is your chance to experience one of the most ecologically and culturally rich destinations on Earth.
Pack your bug spray and embrace the unknown. Trek through steamy jungles, where orangutans swing through the canopy and hornbills glide past misty mountain peaks. Explore rugged highlands and glistening beaches, uncovering the unique ecosystems that make it a biodiversity hotspot. On this student adventure, immerse yourself in local culture, meet indigenous communities, and gain insight into their deep-rooted connection with the land. Witness the impacts of deforestation firsthand and be inspired to play a role in conservation efforts.
This school expedition isn’t just about exploring untouched landscapes, it’s about fostering global awareness, environmental responsibility, and cultural appreciation. Are you ready for an unforgettable journey?
“ My favourite place EVER was Sarawak in Borneo. This was where we did our hike and our project phase. To get there we had to fly and it was a little, isolated place which I just adored!”
