Remote School Expedition to Tropical Belize

A wildlife conservation school expedition to Belize combining remote community living, jungle trekking in Mountain Pine Ridge, wildlife sanctuaries and Caribbean island life.

This leadership-focused school expedition through Belize combines community impact, wilderness challenge and Caribbean adventure. Living and working alongside a remote Creole community offers a powerful insight into social development and resilience, while time in wildlife sanctuaries and tropical forests brings Belize’s biodiversity to life. Multi-day trekking in the Mountain Pine Ridge tests teamwork, leadership and self-reliance, before the pace slows on the laid-back island of Caye Caulker. You’ll return home more confident, more capable and with a deeper understanding of how leadership, community and environment are closely connected.

Day 1Arrive In Belize City
Belize City
You’ve made it to Belize, a country of teeming forests, Mayan temples and coral reefs. Make sure you get some rest after your flight, because you’re about to take the road less travelled and experience places you’ve been dreaming about. Lush jungles, sacred mountains and paradise beaches, they’re all here waiting to be explored.
Days 2-6Remote Creole Community Initiative
La Democracia
Spend the next few days living alongside a Creole community and contributing to a locally-led initiative. The community was moved here from Belize City as part of a housing project. Sadly, the project didn’t work out because the community suffers from unemployment and a lack of resources. Local initiatives aim to tackle these problems through development and outreach work. Chat with your hosts, find out how you can help, and then lend a hand in improving local infrastructure. To make a positive contribution, you’ll need to learn some new skills!
Day 7Nature Trail Walk
Wildlife Sanctuary
Discover more about the fascinating wildlife and rich biodiversity of the Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on a guided nature trail through five distinct vegetation habitats. As you walk, your guide will reveal the secrets of the rainforest, pointing out tropical birds, curious mammals, and the incredible variety of plants that thrive here. Learn how local communities have long used these plants for food, shelter, and traditional medicine, gaining a deeper understanding of how people live in harmony with nature. Be curious and open minded as you explore this unique ecosystem, and you’ll leave not only with new knowledge but also a rare appreciation for Belize’s delicate balance between people and the wild.
Days 8-11Mountain Pine Ridge Trek
Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve
Lace up your boots, load your pack, and get ready to trek deep into Belize’s untamed interior. You’ll travel to the starting point where your expert local guides will lead the way. Step up as team leader, set the pace, and navigate your way through dense jungle trails that open into the sweeping pine forests of the Mountain Pine Ridge. As the sun dips, set up camp beside a stunning waterfall and cook up a well-earned feast under the stars.
Days 8-11Mountain Pine Ridge Trek
Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve
You’ll be carrying all your own gear, so pace yourselves and move as one team. The days ahead are filled with jungle paths, mountain ridges, and views that will stop you in your tracks. Pass through remote Maya villages, cool off in the famous Big Rock Waterfall, and spot flashes of colourful birdlife overhead. After four incredible days on the trail, you’ll return to the lowlands and crash out in dorms near Belize City. You’ve earned the deepest sleep of your life!
Days 12-13Beach time in Caye Caulker
Caye Caulker
Escape to Caye Caulker, a tiny Caribbean island with crystal clear waters. With no cars and only one village, most of the island is made up of sandy beaches and lush mangroves. Relax on the beach, chow down on fresh seafood and listen to the island’s reggae beats as the sun sets over the ocean. Life doesn’t get much better than this.
Days 12-13Snorkelling in Caye Caulker
Caye Caulker
You could join an optional snorkelling trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, home to the world-famous Blue Hole and the second-longest barrier reef on the planet. Dive in and glide past dazzling corals, manta rays and friendly sharks.
Day 14Travel Home From Belize City
Belize City
After the best two weeks of your life, it’s time to travel home. Cram everything into your backpack and head to the airport. Check in, sit back and let it all sink in, you’ve just experienced something incredible. Belize has opened your eyes and challenged you more than you ever imagined. You’ve fast-tracked your life skills and connected with the locals; you’ve led your team and made new friends for life.
