Day 1Arrive in Ljubljana
Kamnik
Touch down in the green city of Ljubljana and travel to your camp in Kamnik. You’ve made it to Slovenia, a country of soaring peaks, emerald-green lakes and non-stop adventure. Make sure you get some rest after your flight, because you’re about to take the road less travelled and experience the places you’ve been dreaming about. Wild mountains, sparkling rivers and dramatic castles, they’re all here waiting to be explored.
Day 2Velika Planina
Velika Planina
Wake up and dive into expedition life. Allocate group roles and meet the ground team to discuss your plans. Buy some food and a SIM card for the team phone (the currency here is Euros). Jobs done, time to trek. Velika Planina is a high mountain plateau in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Take a cable car up the mountain, then begin exploring this vast Alpine pasture on foot. Trek through rolling meadows, beneath jagged peaks and past wooden shepherd huts. This settlement still makes milk, cream and cheese in the traditional Alpine way. After half a morning in the peaks, you have the afternoon free to explore the surrounding area. You could take a train (around 50 mins) to Ljubljana and discover more of the Slovenian capital with its cobbled streets, beautiful bridges and fairytale castle. Or how about delving deeper into the medieval town of Kamnik? Navigate its quaint streets, castle remains and Romanesque chapel.
Days 3-4The Bohinj Region
Bohinj Region
Head to the Bohinj region, where forested peaks rise above blue-green waters. Along the way, stop at Lake Bled. Framed by the Julian Alps, Slovenia’s most popular resort is a haven for hiking, biking and watersports. You could explore Bohinjska Bistrica with its wildflower meadows and museum set inside a tannery. Or head for Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest permanent lake. Back at camp, get dinner on the go and get some rest, you’ll need it. Boots on, daypack loaded. Today offers a challenging uphill route through Gorge Mostnica. As you trek, soak up the landscape, it’s a lush green valley of waterfalls, sparkling rivers and beautiful stone bridges. The afternoon is yours to explore more, or try optional activities, including kayaking and canoeing.
Day 5Pokljuka Plateau
Triglav National Park
Time for something bigger. You’re about to spend a full day trekking to Pokljuka, a high karst plateau in Triglav National Park. Get ready for a jaw-dropping landscape, splashed by sparkling lakes and surrounded by towering peaks. Just look at those views! Neighbouring the Julian Alps, Pokljuka Plateau is a mecca for hiking and adventure sports. Meet your mountain guide and set off through thick spruce forests, peat bogs and high alpine meadows. When you reach Uskovnica, learn about the Nazi attack that took place at this mountain pasture, and pay your respects at the monument to the victims. After a day exploring the plateau, head back to camp, you’ll sleep like a log tonight.
Day 6Kranjska Gora & the City
Kranjska Gora
Get your final taste of life in the Slovenian mountains. In winter, Kranjska Gora is a snow sports paradise. In summer, skiers are replaced with hikers, and the snow melts to reveal lush green valleys. Explore the waterfalls and canary-yellow church of Gozd Martuljek. Energy to burn? You could trek around Lake Jasna with its striking backdrop of limestone mountains. At Planica, check out the ski jumping hills. In 1936, the world’s first ski jump over 100 metres was built there. There’s also the Zelenci Nature Reserve to discover with its emerald-green lake, sand lizards and rare bird species, including the Scarlet Grosbeak. Back in Ljubljana, you’ve got an evening to explore. As your trip wraps up, celebrate everything you’ve achieved with a final team meal. Share your best memories and set your friendships in stone.
Day 7Travel Home from Ljubljana
Ljubljana
After the best week of your life, it’s time to travel home. Cram everything into your backpack and head to the airport. Check in, sit back and let it all sink in, you’ve just experienced something incredible. Slovenia has opened your eyes and challenged you more than you ever imagined. You’ve fast-tracked your life skills and connected with the locals; you’ve led your team and made new friends for life. These experiences will shape who you are and put you on the path to becoming a true global citizen. Prepare to return home forever changed.
