Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu
Kathmandu
Touch down in the legendary city of Kathmandu. You’ve made it to Nepal, a land of golden temples, thick forests and Himalayan peaks. Make sure you get some rest after your flight. You’re about to take the road less travelled and experience the places you’ve been dreaming about. Snow-capped mountains and sacred cities, they’re all here waiting to be explored.
Day 2Discover the Capital
Kathmandu
Your journey kicks off in the bustling capital of Kathmandu, a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and smells that leave a lasting first impression. Jump into expedition life by assigning team roles, meeting the local ground crew, and prepping for the trek ahead. Pick up a team SIM card, practise using the Nepalese Rupee at local markets, and soak up the city’s vibrant energy. As you head out for dinner, follow the aromas of sizzling street food and tuck into your first momos (Nepalese dumplings), setting you up for the journey ahead.
Day 3Fly To Lukla
Lukla
Buckle up for one of the world’s most thrilling flights as you soar from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. The tiny airstrip clings to the side of a mountain, making your landing unforgettable! Once you touch down, it’s time to prepare. Stock up on snacks and trekking essentials before hitting the trail. From here, the real adventure begins. Ahead lies the Khumbu Valley, endless mountain views, and the start of your epic journey to Everest Base Camp.
Days 4-5Acclimatise In Namche
Namche
Begin your trek through the lush Dudh Koshi Valley, crossing suspension bridges and rhododendron forests, as you gradually climb towards Namche Bazaar, a vibrant Sherpa town nestled high in the mountains. You've gained serious altitude, now it’s time to rest and adjust. Acclimatisation is key to a successful trek, and today is about letting your body catch up. Take a light hike to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, the jagged peaks you’ll be walking beneath in the days ahead. Wander through Namche’s market, grab a hot chai, and explore the local bakeries or Sherpa Museum. Stay hydrated, keep moving gently, and pay attention to how you’re feeling. The climb ahead will be challenging, today will help you prepare mentally and physically for what’s to come.
Days 6-8Namche To Dingboche
Dingboche
Now the real altitude begins to kick in. From Namche, follow trails etched into mountainsides as you make your way through Tengboche, home to one of the most famous monasteries in Nepal. Stop to take it in before continuing towards Pangboche and finally Dingboche. The air thins as you ascend, but the views expand in return. Towering ice-capped peaks flank your path, and every turn reveals a new reason to be amazed. Expect early nights, basic comforts, and a sense of camaraderie as your team grows tighter. Slow and steady is the rule, one foot in front of the other.
Day 9Acclimatise in Dingboche
Dingboche
A gentler pace today lets you catch your breath and prepare for the days ahead. A short climb above Dingboche reveals jaw-dropping views of the Imja Valley and surrounding peaks, perfect for recharging before the journey continues. Your body is working hard to adapt to the altitude, and every step helps. These rest days aren’t for taking it easy, they give your body the best chance to keep going. Back at the teahouse, take time to reflect, write in your journal, or chat with your guides. Everest Base Camp is within reach, but it’s going to take grit to get there.
Days 10-11Reach Everest Base Camp
Gorak Shep
With Dingboche behind you, push on through the high alpine desert, and cross the hauntingly beautiful Thukla Pass, marked by stone memorials to fallen climbers. The terrain becomes more barren and dramatic as you approach Lobuche. The next day is a big one, the final stretch to Everest Base Camp. Carefully cross the Khumbu Glacier and trace the rocky trail to Base Camp itself. Prayer flags flutter in the wind and the sense of achievement is overwhelming. Take it all in, you’ve reached 5,364 metres. After photos and celebrations, return to Gorak Shep, tired but elated. This is the moment you’ll remember forever.
Days 12-13Summit Kala Pattjar
Kala Pattjar
Start the morning with something unforgettable, the climb to Kala Patthar (5,545m). It’s steep, it’s cold, and it’s absolutely worth it. From the summit, you’ll catch sunrise over Everest itself, a surreal moment that few people ever experience. After soaking in the view, begin your descent. The air gets richer with every step down. You’ll feel stronger and faster as you retrace your steps through Lobuche, stopping to rest in Pheriche. The hardest part is behind you, but don’t let your guard down just yet. Stay alert and keep managing your energy. The finish line is close.
Days 14-17Descend & Fly Back
Lukla & Kathmandu
The final stretch! Descend through familiar forests, cross prayer-flag-lined bridges, and return to the villages you passed on the way up. With the altitude easing, your body will feel lighter, but your pack may feel heavier, weighed down by memories, laughs, and hard-won lessons. Arrive back in Lukla with a new sense of what you’re capable of. Say farewell to your porters and guides, who’ve been your backbone throughout. The next morning, board the flight back to Kathmandu. Look out the window. The towering peaks below aren’t just mountains anymore, they’re part of your story.
Days 18-19Capital Culture & Travel Home
Katmandu
Spend your final day in Kathmandu exploring the city’s highlights, from the historic Durbar Square to the serene Boudhanath Stupa. Take a rickshaw to the colourful Asan Tole market or climb to the Swayambhunath ‘Monkey Temple’ for sweeping views of the city. For a peaceful moment, visit Kopan Monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhist life. As the sun sets, celebrate your journey with your team over a final group meal, reflecting on the unforgettable adventure you’ve shared. The next day, pack your bags and memories, and head to the airport. As you board your flight home, take a moment to let it all sink in. Nepal has challenged, inspired, and changed you in ways you never expected. You’ve grown as a leader, formed lasting friendships, and gained a deeper understanding of the world. You leave not just with photos and souvenirs, but with experiences that will shape who you become.

World Challenge expeditions deliver just what the name implies, students are challenged in many ways and develop real world skills to deal with these challenges. The overall experience is very rewarding.
