Day 1Arrive in Sofia

Touch down in Sofia, stretch your legs and make your way into the city - a vibrant capital cradled by mountains and steeped in history. You’ve made it to Bulgaria, where ancient fortresses, Orthodox churches and lively streets sit side by side. Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, take some time to rest after your journey - an unforgettable adventure awaits. You’re about to wander through the rich tapestry of history, culture, and nature you’ve always dreamed about. Cobbled lanes, soaring cathedrals and distant peaks - they’re all here, ready to be discovered.

Day 2Scale Musala Peak

Rila Mountains

Leave Sofia behind and journey into the Rila Mountains, watching the city give way to forests, rivers and towering peaks. Take a cable car to the starting point, hop off and begin the hike to Musala which sits at 2,925 metres, the highest peak in the Balkans. Follow well-marked trails past glacial lakes and rocky slopes, stopping to catch your breath and soak up the sweeping views. After celebrating at the summit, descend back down the mountain and depart for Blagoevgrad, where you’ll spend the night recharging, ready for tomorrow’s adventures.

Day 3Rila Monestary

Today, travel to the other side of the Rila Mountains to visit Rila Monastery, Bulgaria’s most important spiritual and cultural treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through its frescoed cloisters, admire the striped arcades, and soak up the peaceful mountain setting. As the day winds down, travel on to Bansko, a charming mountain town nestled at the foothills of the Pirin Mountains. On arrival, stroll slowly through cobbled streets, browse cosy cafés, and enjoy mountain views as you get a feel for Bansko.

Days 4-5Pirin Mountain Trek

Pirin National Park

Set off to explore Pirin National Park, a wild playground of alpine ridges, glacial lakes and rich biodiversity. Follow mountain trails through pine forest and rocky slopes as you hike towards Kremena Lake, a peaceful spot tucked beneath towering peaks. Return to Bansko and rest up for the night. In the morning, break camp and head on towards the Vihren mountain hut area. Spend the day trekking around the beautiful Banderitsa lakes and open meadows, keeping an eye out for alpine flowers, mountain goats and birdlife. After a full day on the trail, pack up your gear and transfer to Plovdiv, ready for the next chapter of your adventure.

Day 6Explore Plovdiv

Enjoy a free day to explore Plovdiv at your own pace. Wander through the cobbled streets of the Old Town, discover colourful houses and hidden courtyards, or relax in one of the shady parks. If you’d like something more structured, you could join an optional guided walking tour with a local guide to uncover stories behind the Roman theatre, Ottoman mosques and street art. Another great option is a traditional bread-making workshop, where you’ll knead, shape and bake your own loaf before tasting the results.

Days 7-8Veliko Tarnovo

The Balkan Mountains

Depart for northern Bulgaria and watch the scenery shift as you leave Plovdiv behind. Along the way, stop at the beautiful Shipka Memorial Church in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, then climb the steps to the Shipka Monument for some of the most epic views in the region. Continue to the Etara Ethnographic Museum, where a local guide will introduce you to traditional crafts – you might see pottery, woodcarving, herb drying or soap making in action. In the afternoon, travel on to Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria’s charming former capital, and enjoy a free evening to explore its winding streets. You’ll have the following day to discover more at your own pace – perhaps join an optional walking tour or simply wander between viewpoints and cafés.

Day 9Explore the Capital

Return to Sofia and make the most of your final day in Bulgaria’s capital, where historic landmarks and modern life meet. Pass by well-known sights such as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Roman ruins of Serdica, and the city’s distinctive yellow cobblestone streets. Pick up last-minute souvenirs from local shops or relax in a familiar square or café. Before heading home, enjoy one final taste of Bulgarian cuisine - perhaps warm banitsa or grilled kebapche - and take a quiet moment with your team to reflect on everything you’ve experienced together.

Day 10Travel Home From Sofia

All too soon, it’s time to say goodbye to Bulgaria. Pack your backpack one last time and head out from Sofia. As the plane lifts off, glance down at the vibrant mix of old and new, nestled at the foot of Mount Vitosha.
