Project Independence
Independent trips for those brave enough to take the road less travelled with a group of like-minded friends.
The project independence team is made up of students from all over the country excited to take the adventure of a lifetime. Running independently of school, you’ll get all the benefits of the training, support and safety of a World Challenge experience with a ready-made team of like-minded young travellers who you’ll get to know in the build up to the trip ahead. Each year, we hand select a list of the very best destinations and have (limited) spots available for those brave young souls ready to take up the challenge. All that’s left to do is choose your destination, sign up and put the dates in your diary.

Your school trip to Sri Lanka awaits
Travel to a tropical island of golden temples, misty mountains, and surf-washed sands. Bursting with colour and lapped by the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is home to World Heritage sites and more than 2,000 years of rich culture. This overseas school trip invites you to uncover a side of this stunning country that most tourists never see.
Trek through lush tea plantations, spot elephants in the jungle, or discuss Buddhism with peace-loving monks. Connect with local communities and gain insight into their daily lives and traditions. And the cuisine? It’s unforgettable, coconut sambal, dhal, and refreshing Ceylon tea are just the beginning.
This school expedition is more than a journey through beautiful landscapes, it’s a chance to immerse yourself in a vibrant culture, build resilience, and develop a deeper understanding of the world. Don’t forget your sunblock, the sun is as warm as its hospitality!
“ Probably the best moment of my expedition to Sri Lanka was sitting on a rock in the middle of the Knuckles Range, with the people that I had become so close with, watching the sun set over the mountains.”
Fraser, Student
