Explore Sumatra

The Indonesian island of Sumatra is a place of astonishing beauty. The pristine jungle holds some of the richest and most diverse tropical forests on the planet. This is the only place in the world where tigers, rhinos, orangutans and elephants live together in the wild.

Trek, sleep and eat in the jungle and explore the broad rivers of Gunung Leuser National Park.

Choose your experience

Spend your first day in Medan city to find your feet before heading out to a beautiful part of rural Sumatra. Complete some gentle trekking whilst exploring the trail networks. Get used to the heat and carrying your rucksack before embarking on your main trek.

Challenge Yourself

Venture into the lush green jungle of Bukit Lawang where you will be hiking through some of the planet's oldest and most pristine rainforest. You will pass by local villages, cross small streams and learn about your surroundings by listening to your knowledgeable guides.

Illegal logging and the growth of the palm oil industry are unfortunately contributing to some widespread environmental concerns in Sumatra. Teams will be working alongside local organisations who dedicate their time to reforestation initiatives and community outreach programs.

Chill Out

Sumatra has so much to offer! Trek into the jungle to spot orangutans in Bukit Lawang, learn about the Christian Batak people of Lake Toba or marvel at the Mesjid Raya (Grand Mosque) in Medan.
